Daytime burglaries are one of the top priorities of the HPD. Bad guys know that the majority of people work during the day, leaving their homes exposed with little protection if the property is not alarmed.
We depend on aggressive patrols by our uniform officers, bolstered by Crime Watches and our neighbors to detect suspicious activity, especially during daylight hours.
On Aug 6th in the 74000 Block of Van Buren, neighbors noticed two unfamiliar subjects enter into a home. Dispatch was notified. Unmarked units from our Narcotics units were working nearby, responded and observed the suspects. Patrol and Gang units flooded the area and a lengthy foot pursuit ensued. Both subjects were taken into custody and the property they took from the home was recovered.
The suspects confessed to the crime and charges were promptly filed.
I would like to commend the citizens and all officers involved in this incident for a job well done! Thank you for helping make and keep Hammond a safe place to live.
