Steps / Process

Complete the Online Application
Visit the Indiana State Police Firearms Licensing: Apply for a New License to Carry page for an overview, then complete your Handgun License Application online. Answer each question carefully and completely before submitting.

Schedule Fingerprinting
After submitting your application, schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted electronically through IdentoGO. Fingerprinting services are available at the Hammond Visitor Center and other approved locations near you.

Bring Your Documents to the Hammond Police Department
After being fingerprinted, you will receive an IdentoGO fingerprint confirmation card. Bring the following to the Hammond Police Department:
- Your IdentoGO fingerprint confirmation card
- A valid Hammond ID card or Indiana driver’s license

Background Investigation
The Hammond Police Department will conduct a background investigation and submit its recommendation to the Indiana State Police.

State Police Review
The Indiana State Police will review the application and background investigation and will make the final decision to issue or deny the firearms permit.
