Tow Release Process
If your vehicle has been towed by the Hammond Police Department, you can obtain a tow release from our Records Division. This document is required by the tow company to release your vehicle.
Tow release fee is $75. If you are paying with a debit or credit card, additional processing fees will apply.
Steps / Process

Visit the Records Division
Come to the Hammond Police Department at 509 Douglas St during business hours.

Provide Required Documents
Present your valid ID, proof of vehicle ownership (title or registration), and proof of insurance.

Pay the Release Fee
Pay the applicable tow release fee at the Records Division window.
04
Receive Your Release Form
Take the signed tow release form to the impound lot to retrieve your vehicle.

- Registered owner must present valid government-issued photo ID
Tow Company Requirements:
- Vehicle registration or title
- Proof of current insurance
- Tow release form
- Tow release fee payment

If Your Vehicle Was Towed
If your vehicle was towed during a crash investigation, a $75.00 administration fee must be paid to the Hammond Police Department Records Division, located at 509 Douglas Street, Hammond, Indiana, prior to recovering your vehicle from the towing facility.
Documents required to recover your vehicle:
- Valid driver’s license
- Proof of insurance
- Proof of ownership (title or registration)
